About the book

Most people who start investing do roughly the same thing. They buy shares in a company they have heard good things about, they hope the price goes up, and they sell at some point for what they hope will be a profit. There is nothing wrong with this approach, but while you wait, your money is largely doing nothing for you. It sits in your shares, dependent on the market's mood for any meaningful return.

There is another way, and it is not a secret. Professional traders have been using it for decades. It is most commonly called the Wheel Strategy, and the central idea is almost embarrassingly simple: instead of buying shares and hoping the price goes up, you get paid to be willing to buy them at a price you choose. Once you own them, you get paid again to be willing to sell them at a price you choose.

The income arrives whether the stock moves up, down, or sideways. You are no longer waiting for the market to do something. You are being compensated for your willingness to wait.

This book unpacks every part of that idea in plain language, with no assumed knowledge of options or trading vocabulary. By the time you reach the end, you will understand how the strategy works, why it works, what kind of stocks it works best on, and how to place your first trade if you choose to.

No prior options knowledge is required. The first chapter starts with what the stock market actually is, and every concept builds from there.

Who is this book for?

The Curious Beginner

If you've never traded options and are not sure they're for you, this book starts at the beginning. The first chapter explains what the stock market actually is. From there, every concept builds one step at a time, in plain language.

The Capital-Active Investor

If you have shares (or savings you'd be willing to invest in shares) and you're tired of waiting passively for the market to do something, the Wheel Strategy offers a structured alternative: generate cashflow from capital you already have, on stocks you'd be happy to own.

The Methodical Learner

If you're looking for a quick way to get rich, this isn't it. The Wheel is a slow, methodical strategy that rewards discipline over time. This book is for readers willing to learn properly, place small first trades, and build judgement gradually.

What's inside?

Ten chapters that take you from "what is the stock market?" to placing your first real trade. Each chapter builds on the last, in plain English, with no assumed knowledge.

Foundations

The stock market in plain English, and a different way to think about owning shares.

The 2 Halves of the Wheel

Getting paid to be willing to buy, and getting paid to be willing to sell. The mechanics explained one half at a time.

The Complete Cycle

How the two halves combine into a continuous cycle, and how to pick stocks that suit the strategy.

Real-World Practice

A first trade walked through step by step, what to do when a trade doesn't go to plan, and where to go from here.

About Stephen Caple

I've been trading in the US stock market for over fifteen years, mostly from a desk in Australia where the market opens late in the evening and closes before sunrise. That timezone challenge turned out to be a gift, because it forced me to find an approach that didn't need me watching a screen all day.

Like most people, I started with the same enthusiastic mistakes new traders make, and slowly worked out that the people who consistently make money are usually the ones on the other side of those trades. That realisation led me to the Wheel Strategy, which is built around being willing to own shares in companies you believe in and collecting income along the way. It suits people who want to participate in the market without making it a full-time job.

This book is the introduction I wish I'd had when I started. I'm not a financial advisor. I'm a trader who writes about what works for me.

Got questions?

Who is this book for?

Anyone curious about the Wheel Strategy who's never traded options before, or who's tried options trading and is looking for a more systematic approach. Chapter One starts with what the stock market actually is, so no prior knowledge is required.

How is the book delivered?

As a digital flipbook. You'll receive a link immediately after purchase that gives you instant access on any device: phone, tablet, or computer. No software to install.

How much money do I need to actually try the strategy?

The Wheel can be started with as little as USD $2,000 in account capital. USD $5,000 or more gives you more flexibility in the stocks and ETFs you can choose from. If you don't have capital yet but want to learn, the book also explains how to practise via paper trading (simulated trades with no real money).

What if I don't know anything about options?

The book assumes no prior knowledge of options, the stock market, or how brokerage accounts work. Everything is built up one concept at a time, in plain English.

Is this financial advice?

No. This book is educational content only. It does not take into account your personal financial situation or goals. Before making any financial decision, you should consult a licensed financial adviser. See the Terms of Service for full details.

I don't live in the USA, can I still use this strategy?

The book uses the US stock market in its examples, because that's where the Wheel Strategy is most commonly run. The concepts apply anywhere options are traded, but the specifics of brokers, trading hours, and option contract sizes vary by market. Most non-US traders run the Wheel on US stocks through a broker that supports international access.

What is the difference between this and the Complete Guide?

This book is the introduction, about 80 pages, covering the strategy in enough depth that you could place a first trade with confidence. The Complete Guide is roughly two and a half times longer and covers position management, performance tracking, weekly routines, and the dozen or so mistakes that catch even experienced traders. Most readers start here and move to the Complete Guide if they want to go deeper.

Can I get a refund if I change my mind?

Digital products are non-refundable once payment has been processed. However, your rights under Australian Consumer Law are not affected. If the product is faulty or significantly different from its description, you're entitled to a refund. Full details in the Refund Policy.
